For me, the group’s music never truly reached its potential until 2016’s Deepened – despite these early singles being Brave Brothers productions. With Brave Girls’ unprecedented resurgence this year, it seems like the perfect time to flashback an entire decade and look at their debut. In this feature, I’ll be looking back at debut songs through the prism of time, re-evaluating how well they hold up and how representative they are of an artist’s eventual singles run. Sometimes, they’re the only song a group delivers!īut, debuts can also be huge wtf moments in an artist’s career. At times, they’re the best song a group delivers. “When we finish a show, we just want to wash up and go to bed. Her favorite thing about the cut? It’s stylish and functional. Orbits, LOONA’s fans, collectively lost their minds, and it became the group’s most-liked post. Then, feeling herself, she snapped a few selfies for the 'gram. Just before the tour started, HeeJin got a shoulder-length chop. “I’m blonde right now!” she says with a laugh. “She looks good with light hair,” she starts, only to be interrupted by JinSoul herself. (Go Won seizes the opportunity to wax poetic about how photogenic her fellow member’s face is in natural light.) After taking a moment to ponder, ViVi details her ideal look for JinSoul. There has been a definite energy shift since Olivia Hye bobbed her hair, and there’s something to be said about Choerry’s current bangs, which are the perfect frame for her face, per her group mates. The do's may have been hit or miss - don’ts, if you will - but they enabled LOONA to settle into individual styles. “If I could go back to the past, I’d tell myself to bleach in moderation.” She waits for the interpreter to finish translating before clutching a handful of her extensions and announcing in English: “Not mine!” “I’ve bleached my hair so many times now, my real hair to about here,” she says, indicating next to her eyebrows. Kim Lip, whose baby-pink extensions end about waist height, regrets some of the damage she’s incurred by repeatedly lightening and coloring her hair. As the interpreter relays the words back - “She would like for her to go to the beach and take those nice shots like a calendar girl" - the giggles start again. An embarrassed Go Won hides her face in cupped palms. “I enjoyed watching a killer, so I want her to do another tough, cool concept,” she says.Īs for Yves? “She has a pretty body,” Kim Lip deadpans, “so I would want her to wear a sexy bikini and do some sort of Baywatch concept.” Kim Lip strikes a pose - one hand on her hip, the other behind her head - and, laughing, HaSeul and HeeJin fling themselves backward on the couch. Yet as the season dims (regardless of how the thermometer reads in sunny Los Angeles), JinSoul dreams of a winter ballad, something of a full-group sequel to subunit track “The Carol.” YeoJin has something a little darker in mind, akin to the “Not Friends” music video, where HeeJin, Kim Lip, JinSoul, and Yves pose as ruthless assassins. ” Upon hearing the compliment, HyunJin sits up straight and waves her hand high in the air enthusiastically, a more theatrical version of her endearing habit of raising her hand throughout the interview.īeyond Queendom 2 and the group's hybrid on-and-offline concert earlier in the year, in June LOONA released “Flip That,” a light, dreamy ode to balmy summer days. HyunJin, meanwhile, has “very long arms and legs,” HeeJin says, so she “would like to borrow her body and do some walking. “She does things well by herself," YeoJin notes, "whereas I’m a bit more high-maintenance. “She’s very knowledgeable and up-to-date,” ViVi says.ĭown the line, the bubbly, outgoing YeoJin says she would swap with cool and collected Olivia Hye. Soft-spoken, imaginative ViVi is curious to see the world through JinSoul’s inquisitive eyes. HaSeul wouldn’t mind taking on the mantle of “dancing machine,” but Yves has her sights set on HaSeul’s classically trained vocals. Yves immediately links arms and lays her head on HaSeul’s shoulder. “If I could switch bodies with any member, it’d be Yves,” HaSeul begins. Given the essential differences among them, though, how do they feel about walking a mile in another member’s shoes? The 11 girls contemplate the question, surveying the room.
